“The difference between BIO-STIMULATION & Bio-REVITALIZATION of the Skin. “

The difference between Biostimulation & Biorevitalisation of the Skin.

The skin is an extremely complex organ that renews itself continually. The renewal cycle of the cutaneous tissues is about 20-30 days in young people, but as time goes by it becomes progressively slower, with the central cells of the connective tissue, the fibroblasts, losing their capacity to produce hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin…..the essential substances of the skin.

Simply explained Biostimulation is the body’s natural, self-healing, self-regeneration.

When you cut your finger, for example, bleeding will occur as will natural binding of the skin as the cut heals. After this process, the fresh, new skin is revealed in place of the old damaged skin.

There are a number of aesthetic procedures that use the Biostimulation process such as Fibroblast, Micro Needling & Chemical Peels. I’ve discussed Fibroblast & Micro Needling in previous columns so today I will focus on the Chemical Peels.

Chemical Peeling aims at removing the superficial layers in the skin with the help of various organic acids.

They can be applied to the entire surface of the body, but are most often used on the face.

Clients generally want to slow down signs of ageing, achieve smooth fine wrinkles, regain the lost humidity, tone and freshness in the skin.

Chemical Peels can also be of great benefit for those with dermatological issues such as acne scars, hyperpigmentation and sun damage.

In general, most people will have between four to six procedures in a period of between 10 to 14 days once a year. Sometimes in deep peeling if the desired results are not achieved the process can be repeated after 5 to 6 months.

The best time of year to have a Chemical Peel is during the autumn/winter seasons due to the weaker sunshine.

Biorevitalization is the revitalization of skin in a biological way by returning the life to skin. This is a non-surgical and widely applied way to fight skin ageing and various skin problems in aesthetic medicine.

This technique was first introduced in 2001. During the procedure skin is injected with small doses of pure hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is the main structural element of connective tissue that stimulates many important processes in the human body.

Revitalization programmes are suitable for all types of skin and age groups. In fact, this is both a preventative and curative method and is therefore useful for both young, (as a prevention against the ageing of tissues) and mature patients in reducing and contrasting the ageing of the skin.

The procedure consists of a series of micro injections in the treatment area. In general, at least 3 to 4 sessions are needed that varies according to the characteristics of the skin (phototype, age, lifestyle etc.) and the products used. If some skin conditions exist (like autoimmune diseases, proven allergy to the active ingredients used or infection of area to be treated) it is best not to carry out the procedure.
