SEMI PERMANENT MAKE UP ALSO KNOWN AS A COSMETIC TATTOO

Ten years ago most people believed Semi Permanent Makeup involved somebody getting a tattoo on their face…….today it is the fastest growing sector in the beauty industry.

People are surprised to learn that Semi Permanent Makeup has been in existence for over 7,000 years!

As far back as 5,000 B.C. Egyptian women used colour cosmetics such as green ore of copper for eye shadow, Carmine to redden the lips and Coal to blacken the eyebrows, eyelids and lashes.

In modern times the procedure of using Semi Permanent Makeup started during the late 1970s in America and was used as a way for those with alopecia to have something that looked like eyebrows where there was no hair.

Semi Permanent Makeup (also known as Cosmetic Tattoo or Micro-Pigmentation)

is a form of temporary cosmetic tattooing which allows for long-lasting eyeliner and

lip colouring as well as providing perfect, long lasting shape & contour for eyebrows.

It is also used for medical pigmentation such as the areola after mastectomy & scalp pigmentation.

Only professionally trained SPMU technician should perform these treatments. Micro-Pigmentation techniques have been refined in recent years meaning technicians can create a very natural look.

A SPMU technician has a firm understanding of skin & facial structure, colour theory, skin undertone and the methods used in application.

Micro-Pigmentation is about enhancing natural beauty through emphasising the clients own natural shapes and lines. A SPMU artist will analyse and use the facial structures of each individual client to create their own perfect look.

It is important to know that it is still a form of tattooing & a degree of colour may be visible in the skin indefinitely. To keep the enhancement looking fresh you should schedule touch up sessions every 12 to 24 months. The length of time depends on age and lifestyle. A young person may need

touch ups more regularly as their lifestyle may be more active and because young skin replenishes much faster than mature skin.

SOME QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

SHOULD I HAVE A CONSULTATION BEFORE PROCEDURE ?

The answer is definitely yes. A SPMU technician will need to get information about your health, if you’re taking medication. They will try to understand your expectations & explain what is involved during the treatment & the aftercare post procedure

HOW LONG WILL SEMI PERMANENT MAKEUP LAST ?

Depending on the skin type, technique, area and pigments, the results can last from 6 months up to 2 years. Just like hair colour, it is common for the pigments to fade with time depending on an individuals lifestyle. The treatment can be re-enhanced known as a “touch-up” within an 8-week period.

IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL ?

People are often pleasantly surprised to learn there is no real discomfort during or after a procedure. While it is not painless, it is not painful either. A topical anaesthetic is applied to lessen any discomfort. Most people are thrilled with the results of their Semi-Permanent Makeup, just as much as they are thrilled with the level of comfort involved in the process.

CAN I CHOOSE THE COLOUR ?

Yes. The SPMU technician will give options based on your skin undertone.

HOW LONG DOES A PROCEDURE TAKE ?

The procedure itself will normally take 45 minutes for eyebrows & up to 2 hours for lips

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE ?

Immediately following a treatment, slight skin sensitivity in the form of tenderness, redness, swelling, flaking, drying and itchiness may be present for 2-5 days. It is normal to lose approximately 1/3 of the colour during the healing process. After most procedures the colour may be a shade too dark or in 6 days it may appear too light, however after 10 days the colour will be the true result. It will appear softer when completely healed as the colour will come from the dermal layer of the skin to the epidermal layer of the skin. Normally you would be expected to return for your re-touch appointment between 4-8 weeks after the initial procedure to complete the overall look
