A GUIDE TO GOOD SKIN CARE

Skin cells build up and turn over every 28 to 40 days. This process slows down as we age.

Generally speaking a maintenance resurfacing treatment (a facial or peel) is recommended every four to six weeks to achieve continued good skin health and ageing results.

However healthy, radiant skin begins at home and there are some simple steps you can take to help maintain your skin day to day.

Morning Time:

1. Cleanse it off

A good cleanser is the backbone of all effective skincare routines.

A glycolic or salicylic based cleanser is recommended to thoroughly cleanse the skin and remove all impurities so that it is ready to take on any ingredients applied post cleanse.

2. Serum

Once the skin is thoroughly cleansed, it’s time for your serum. An opportunity to pack the skin full of active ingredients like Vitamins A, C, E

3. SPF is a non-negotiable!

There is no point in using all of these amazing, anti – ageing, antioxidative ingredients if we are not going to protect the skin from something that is actually causing the damage. Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter. Rain, hail or shine.

Evening Time:

In the evening we repeat steps one & two and then add moisturiser cream.

1. Cleanse it off

Same as the morning routine

2. Serum

Same as the morning routine

3. Moisturiser

The skin absorbs active ingredients better at night time than during the day, so the benefits of a good night cream can not be underestimated. It will help to keep the skin hydrated, boost collagen and restore it’s elasticity.

I would always recommend booking an appointment with your local clinic or salon for a full skin consultation. Our skin changes as we age so it can be helpful to speak with a qualified therapist for an accurate diagnosis.

In the past it was common practice to use the three step rule: cleanse, tone and moisturise. But today therapists tend to concentrate on the skin’s condition, it’s current health & needs. They can help us to understand the effects our lifestyle has on our skin.

It’s important to remember that one size does not fit all. A routine that works for your best friend might not work for you. Always choose products according to your skin type and needs.
